Our journey, mission, and values
The journey of Helipad began with the challenges we faced while running our Airbnb cleaning business, Fresh Sheets. Like many small business owners, we were overwhelmed with the day-to-day tasks: sales, marketing, daily scheduling, taking bookings, customer support, operations, quality control, hiring, invoicing, and managing cash flow. We were working long hours and felt the burn of constant stress.
In an attempt to lighten our load, we decided to hire our first employee. We interviewed over 20 local candidates, but none of them were a fit. They all preferred to work from home, lacked the necessary drive, and had little or no relevant experience. With our budget constraints, we couldn't afford to pay $60,000-$70,000 for someone who wanted to work remotely.
That's when we decided to explore remote hiring options. We hired our first remote employee from the Philippines, who had over 10 years of experience in admin and ops roles within cleaning companies. Our remote staff took over customer support, scheduling, operations, and even invoicing, allowing us to focus on sales and marketing. In just six months, we scaled our business to $2 million per year in revenue.
However, we faced challenges when we trusted our remote staff too much and allowed him to take on more responsibilities than he could handle. He hired additional remote employees without proper oversight, growing his team to 10 people when the work could be managed by four. The quality of scheduling and operations declined, and we had to step back in to regain control.
We learned valuable lessons from this experience and strengthened our operations and financial management. With our newfound knowledge, we began helping friends and people in our network establish remote teams in their businesses. This is how the idea of Helipad was born. We wanted to bring the power of remote teams to small businesses across the world, helping them achieve profitable growth and freedom of time.
Today, we have helped over 500 businesses hire remote teams, empowering them to streamline their operations and focus on what truly matters.
